Modern library with tables and chairs in a wood finish

The ordinary has been transformed into the extraordinary with the New Central Library in Calgary. "As soon as you come in, there's a feeling of a forum or a great collection hall," Snøhetta founding partner Craig Dykers told Dezeen in a recent interview. The new design is "a place where people from different groups can come together." COI selected each piece to ensure the overall design concept was met without sacrificing the libraries need to have the pieces stand up to heavy use while providing optimal comfort and flexibility. The building design and concept was structured after the feeling of a chinook and the natural environment. Each furniture piece chosen embodies the Alberta landscape while echoing the traditions of great libraries and place of study throughout history.
